The Communists. Resistance to Fascism and Capital.
The communist resistance has a turbulent history. In the early 1930s, it already helped hide German opponents of Hitler and continued to do so during the war despite fierce persecution. The CPN (the Dutch Communist Party) played a central role in i.a. the February Strike. Directly after occupation, communism became immensely popular due to its role in the resistance. But the tables turned and Cold War anti-communism took hold of the Netherlands. In 1951 the Hannie Schaft memorial was even forbidden. The National Liberation Museum presents this turbulent history. The exhibition is produced with the financial support of the vfonds (National Fund for Peace, Freedom, and Veterans) and the Ministry of Public Health, Welfare and Sport.
